Giving Thanks

imagesIt’s no surprise that my blog this week will be about giving thanks. I truly have much for which to be thankful. And while it would be natural to write about my family or God’s grace in my life or the way that my material needs are supplied, I want to focus on a different kind of blessing. I recently read a devotional that asked, “When have you felt God was really working through you in your professional life?” It then instructed, “Write down several experiences when God used you. Thank God for these experiences.” As I reflected on these words, a steam of images ran through my mind. I remembered individual coaching conversations where God gave me the right words that helped a person gain clarity or overcome an obstacle. I thought of consulting projects in which a church or ministry was able to take a major step forward. As my mental canvas was filled with these images, I had a deep sense of gratitude. I’m thankful that I have had many experiences in which God used me to help others. I’m thankful that I’m in a place that allows my God-given talents and gifts to flourish. What about you? Perhaps you’ve not done this kind of reflection in a while. If that’s the case, I hope you’ll take the time this week to ask the question. And I hope that you’ll rediscover many ways that God has worked through you. If the list comes up shorter than you’d like, I hope that you’ll be able to make adjustments in your work that will allow those gifts and abilities to flourish more fully.
