You may be a gifted communicator, but do you really think that you’re more eloquent than the psalmists? When people don’t seem to understand your message, pause long enough to wonder how you could have communicated more clearly.
Repetition is a necessary part of leadership. No one retains all of what goes in their ears (or anything close to 100%). Followers usually need to hear something more than once to understand and internalize it.
The people within a church or ministry or non-profit (staff or volunteers) don’t wake-up thinking about the big strategic issues that keep leaders awake at night. They generally don’t go to bed thinking about the vision that the leader just communicated. Because this isn’t top-of-mind for them, repetition is required for the message to soak in.
Keep this in mind the next time that you have to repeat yourself.
