What You Measure Matters

A Tool to Measure Discipleship.” Here’s what I like about Geoff’s approach. First, he’s clearly stated some markers for a growing disciple. If you don’t agree, then substitute your own, but don’t get stuck at the generic (and undefined) level. Second, he has created a simple and systematic approach for measuring the trends. The tool may not be perfect, but the trends that it shows will be very telling. Finally, the simple act of using a congregation-wide survey, as Geoff proposes, signals to the whole church that this is something that matters. If you read Geoff’s suggestion, you may think that it’s overly simplistic or not rigorous enough. That may be true, but what tool are you using? Are you measuring what matters?
